Live blogging from Ravens-Bills
In closing: This wasn't a pretty victory by any means, but the Bills needed something positive after the disaster two weeks ago against the Cowboys. The offense moved the ball well inside the 20s but they scored only two TDs and were 1-for-4 inside the red zone. The defense played well and managed to get off the field (the Ravens were 5 of 15 on 3rd down) in crucial situations. The Bills will take some measure of confidence into next week's game against the New York Jets.
0:00 left: Bills punt with eight seconds left and Yamon Figurs calls for a fair catch then muffs it as time expires. Buffalo wins.
1:45 left in the fourth quarter: The Ravens hold serve and the Bills prepare to punt to Ed Reed. Ravens 1st and 10 from the Baltimore 32. Boller completes a pass to tight end Quinn Sypniewski for a 9-yard gain just before the two-minute warning. Ravens in shotgun. Boller's pass nearly picked off by George Wilson. 3rd and 1. Boller's pass bounces to Mark Clayton. 4th down. Boller's pass broke up by Donte Whitner and the Bills take over on downs. After the first play went for nine yards, I wonder why the Ravens didn't mix it up and at least try a running play?
3:14 left in the fourth quarter: Bills go three and out and the Ravens take over 1st and 10 from their own 32. Defensive end Anthony Hargrove is certainly earning his money today. He just pressured Boller into another poor throw and force 4th down. Bills take over from their own 14.
6:34 left in the fourth quarter: Here we go! Samari Rolle picked off Edwards and returned it 14 yards for a touchdown. The play is under review because the Bills say Rolle was down by contact. The play is overturned and Ravens take over on the Bills 14. Still, this is a bad place for a turnover. The Ravens try a little trickery with wideout Derrick Mason throwing an option pass to Boller, but Boller dropped the pass in the end zone. Boller fires a strike to Derrick Mason for a 15-yard TD. Bills 19, Ravens 14.
9:00 left in the game: The Ravens are answering the Bills' TD drive with a good drive of their own. 3rd and 10 for the Ravens on the Bills 33. Aaron Schobel pressures Boller into another bad throw to force 4th and 10. Ravens go for it and Boller finds Demetrius Williams on an 18-yard slant for first down. It's 3rd and 3 from the 8 and Boller's pass falls incomplete. Ravens go for it on 4th down and Boller's pass is incomplete to Derrick Mason. Turnover on downs.
2:14 left in the third quarter: Anthony Hargrove sacks Boller on third down with DiGiorgio in on the play as well. The Bills finally take a shot down field for Lee Evans, who bobbled the pass before pulling it in for a 54-yard gain to the Ravens 15. The completion was the longest of Edwards' career. Oh my goodness! A Buffalo team just scored a TD! Between the UB-Syracuse game and the Bills-Ravens, that breaks a streak of eight consecutive field goals this weekend by Buffalo teams! What a feeling! Bills 19, Ravens 7
7:18 left in the third quarter: Trent Edwards just found Josh Reed for a 25-yard gain to the Ravens 30. The drive stalls at the Ravens 23 and Lindell makes his fourth field goal. Bills 12, Ravens 7.
11:20 left in the third quarter: The Ravens come out of halftime driving. McGahee just scored on a 46-yard run in which he stiff armed George Wilson along the way. Ouch! Bills 9, Ravens 7.
Halftime: Bills take a 9-0 lead into the lockerroom.
54 seconds left in the second quarter: Willis just ran up the middle for 18 yards and into Bills territory. Bills send a heavy blitz with John DiGiorgio pressuring Kyle Boller into a bad throw to force 4th down.
3:44 left in the second quarter: The Ravens are giving new meaning to lack of discipline. They were just called for their fifth off sides penalty. Defensive tackle Dwan Edwards just sacked Trent Edwards (no relation) on second down and the Bills punt two plays later.
5:50 left in the second quarter: You have to give it up to the Bills defense. They may be banged up, but the Ravens have just three first downs and 68 yards of total offense so far.
10:18 left in second quarter: J.P. Losman is up throwing on the sideline to Josh Reed. Angelo Crowell just forced a fumble by Quinn Sypniewski which was recovered by John DiGiorgio on the Ravens 23. Trent Edwards remains in the game - perhaps J.P. was teasing his fans? - and the Bills are only able to cash in on three more points by Lindell. 9-0 Bills.
12:44 left in second quarter: Samari Rolle was just called for pass interference breaking up a pass intended for Roscoe Parrish. First and goal from the 7 for the Bills, but it looked like a clean break up to me. Bills run three plays, go minus-1 yard and settle for another Lindell field goal. 6-0 Bills.
2:06 left in the first quarter: Willis keeps getting booed so the fans must REALLY be upset over what he said about Buffalo. Willis just got greeted by John McCargo for a 5-yard loss. Ravens put again.
3:51 left in the first quarter: Two nice runs by Marshawn Lynch. A facemask penalty by Langston Walker negates another good run by Lynch and pushes the Bills back 15 yards. Bills going no huddle. Lynch cuts right then left and breaks off a 23-yard gain to the Ravens 20. Bills decide to kick a field goal on 4th and 1 from the 11 Rian Lindell's field goal is good. 3-0 Bills.
12:04 left in first quarter: Not a good start for the hometown team. Second-down sack by LB Terrell Suggs put Bills in hole. Raven take over and are greeted by a chorus of boos directed at, you guessed it, Willis McGahee. The fans shower Willis with a name not suitable for a family-oriented blog. And it wasn't Happy Birthday. Willis carries twice for four yards.
Pregame: Here are the Bills inactives for today's game. Gibran Hamdan, Fred Jackson, Ashton Youboty, Jim Leonhard, Matt Murphy, Sam Aiken, Ryan Denney and Copeland Bryan. The Ravens inactives are Troy Smith, Chris McAllister, David Pittman, Adam Terry, Daniel Wilcox, Todd Heap, Trevor Pryce and Edgar Jones.
