Lee Evans' rating

Bills receiver Lee Evans is rated the 20th best receiver in the league in a listing just compiled by Scouts.com on ESPN's website. That seems reasonable, considering he was sixth in the NFL in receiving yards in 2006 and 33rd in 2007. Obviously, a receiver's production is dependent on so many other factors. Evans easily could be considered top 15 with a decent year this season. The five receivers ahead of him are: 15, Marques Colston, Saints; 16, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Bengals; 17, Greg Jennings, Packers; 18, Hines Ward, Steelers; and 19, Santorio Holmes, Steelers. I would not trade Evans for any of those guys. The top 15 are: 1, Randy Moss, Pats; 2, Terrell Owens, 'Boys; 3, Steve Smith, Panthers; 4, Andre Johnson, Texans; 5, Reggie Wayne, Colts; 6, Larry Fitzgerald, Cards; 7, Braylon Edwards, Browns; 8, Chad Johnson, Bengals; 9, Plaxico Burress; Giants; 10, Torry Holt, Rams; 11, Anquan Boldin, Cards; 12, Roy Williams, Lions; 13, Marvin Harrison, Colts; and 14, Brandon Marshall, Broncos. No matter where you put Evans, he figures to be an $8 million-a-year man by 2009. (The top six paid WRs make $8M or better.)

What hurts us is how much money a slug like Berrian got. If I'm Lee, it would take a boatload of money for me to re-up

Kdogg,

Price put up his 90 catch season in a year where our entire offense was tearing it up with Bledsoe, Moulds and Henry leading the way. Evans has continued to put up solid #s despite being surrounded by garbage. Also, depsite being in the league FIVE fewer years than Price, Evans just has TWO fewer TD receptions. The comparison of the two is absolutely unfounded.

Mark: That's a great split. Because I wouldn't trade Evans for any of those guys (Housh would be tempting except for his age), but I'd trade Evans for ANY of the guys in the top 14 (although Boldin would be a close call).

Lee Evans is so overrated. All of the talk about getting him a #2 receiver is a bunch of hot-air. We should be looking to get him a #1 receiver because he's merely a good #2 Wide-out. Bills fans should not settle for mediocrity and Lee is mediocre. Please remember back a few years and visualize Peerless Price catching 90+ balls for the Bills, getting a big contract, and we never heard from him again. Lee is a very similar player to Peerless & Peerless was NOT a #1 receiver. I say definitely try to re-sign Lee, but not at top dollar for his position. He doesn't deserve that kind of money - But he does deserve a good #1 WR to play along side him! GO BILLS!!!!
