Sept. 1: A start and an end
ROCHESTER -- It's the last day of the season for the Bisons (thankfully) but the first day of September in the big leagues in what figures to be a wildly wacky month. We got a head start on the madness Sunday in Pittsburgh as CC Sabathia (left) threw a controversial one-hitter that had the Brewers railing at the official scorer in PNC Park.
Here's the video of Andy LaRoche's infield hit that the Brewers are protesting. Looks like Sabathia has a play on the runner if he simply picks up the ball.
Meanwhile, in the International League, there are a pair of major goodbyes today: The folks in Richmond are saying farewell to their team as the R-Braves play their final game in Virginia before heading to Gwinnett County, Ga. and Columbus bids adieu to Cooper Stadium tonight against Toledo. The Bisons, of course, are saying goodbye to the Cleveland Indians after 14 seasons with today's game.
As for the Herd, there figures to be 6-7 callups to Cleveland announced later this afternoon. Josh Barfield and Travis Hafner will certainly go now that their rehab assignments will end. I would imagine several pitchers will get the call to the Cleveland pen as well.
The Indians' PR department emails the previous day's stories out to Tribe beat writers each day. Over the weekend, the final story in the package was an MLB.com piece on the final weekend in Columbus' Cooper Stadium. Why in the world would Tribe reporters care about that? Hmmmmm.
Here's today's lineup for the Bisons:
Trevor Crowe, lf
Josh Barfield, 2b
Jordan Brown, 1b
Travis Hafner, dh
Chris Gimenez, c
Jason Cooper, rf
Morgan Ensberg, 3b
Brad Snyder, cf
Andy Cannizaro, ss
SP: Bryan Bullington
