Kensington Lions rosters announced

The rosters for the 33rd Kensington Lions All-Star High School Football Classic are available at the organization's Web site.

Here are the direct links to the North team roster and the South team roster. There is great information on each player, including where they are headed to college.

The site also has a wealth of information about the game, which is being sponsored by AdPro Sports this year. The annual event is also a great fund-raiser for Kids Escaping Drugs; each year at the Western New York football banquet, the Lions' Milt Dickerson presents Dick Gallagher with a sizable donation.

So after a look at the rosters, who do you think will win? Who's got the better offense or defense? You can find out next Wednesday, July 30 at 7 p.m. in what should be a great night at North Tonawanda.

Probably didn't hear about them because you watched North Teams. In the South we were aware of both of them. Both are playing defense in college. Jones at Alfred and Painter at Carnegie Mellon. These guys might rock some D3 opponents.

I loved this game. As an old lineman, I like to watch the warfare in the trenches. I was really surprised at two linemen I've heard nothing about. Bothy on the South squad. Marcellus Jones and Sean Painter. Are they going to college? Both had fantastic games. On one play Jones literally ran over two LBs for a great sack and Painter literally threw an opponent "under the bus," to plow down 4 or 5 rushers and stop a sack. As for the North's line it was all Christman and he owned everyone inside on the South except Painter. Too bad these guy's are apparently not playing in college.

what about all high stadium

I agree the game should be held somewhere else. Not enough seating and over on the South stand, we could not hear anything over the PA. But it was a pretty good game, especially the last 11 seconds!

My guess for the game not being played at UB is $$$$$$$$$$$. The rental for UB is very high.

Great crowd last night. Game so-so. Errors do make for excitement though. Why isn't this game played at UB to enhance the venue? NT is ok but all the standing water, players slipping around, bad PA system, lack of seating.....most HS have the same issues....bring it to UB.

Why won't they play the game on a Saturday night. Most All-star football games like this are played on a Saturday night. The crowds would be huge.

actually there are acouple of good schools on there but the only person going D1 is Matt Glose does anyone know more about him.

Academically, those kids have to qualify for D1 and D2 schools. It is essentially passing 16 courses that count on the clearing house having at least a C average and and an 800 on the SAT. If any of those are missing the kid has to go D3 or CC.

Sean...agreed with the line observation. 2007 was the deepest line class in WNY (Christman, Skrip, Colling, Webb, Means, Bloom, Bayerl, Jesonowski....keeps going and going...) If my memory serves me correctly, all linemen on both the 1st and 2nd All-WNY teams for offense and defense were all Seniors. That should be the legacy of the 2007 class. Should be a good game in the trenches. Game will still be won by an outstanding effort by a skill position player. A broken play, long pass might actually favor the North.

Just pondering the rosters.......given the high number of kids projected to community colleges - do we have an academic problem here with the better football athletes? Where's the Patriot League, Ivy League or other private higher academic school?

I dont expect the south to throw very much. But i will tell everyone this. This game has the most talented line corp in years. This game will be won in the trenches. Both teams are set up to be predominatly run oriented teams (even though Santorio is the north coach). All the QB's in this game are run first QB's. South by 3 touchdowns is the early favorite

Looks to me like the south is better off with an excellent 2nd team all-wny QB in Piscitello i believe, and Shane Biggs as a receiver. Depends how much they throw the ball beacuse i know Coach Graham is an option guy.

From Friday night football to Tuesday afternoon soccer, WNY high schoolers keep busy with sports. This is the spot to talk about their issues and accomplishments. Assistant sports editor Dennis Danheiser and reporters Keith McShea, Mary Jo Monnin and Tom Borrelli get the discussion started.
