Ribeiro no star at the buzzer

Gotta love the he said/she saids that develop in the playoffs. We'll see if the Flyers-Penguins series really heats up tonight but things certainly got ugly at the end of Saturday's 2-1 Wings win over the Stars and so did the war of words. It all stemmed from an incident Detroit's Kris Draper said was a scene right out of "Slap Shot"

Dallas' Mike Ribeiro drilled Detroit goalie Chris Osgood with a two-hander to the chest, swinging his stick from behind the net at the final buzzer. It did, however, come in retaliation to what looked like a butt end by Osgood. I'm betting we don't see Ribeiro in Game Three and maybe longer. That would be a huge loss for the Stars.

If you haven't seen this one, the video below is worth a look. In the midst of a conference final, what does NHL discipline czar Colin Campbell do?

Sunday night update: Campbell did nothing. Fines for Ribeiro and Osgood but no suspensions.

It reminds me of the soccer "fouls" videos. Total drama queens...

What's the big deal? Just a routine bit of violence in a game famous for it.

The butt end was definitely more egregious than the slash, and Osgood's dramatics after the fact were downright pathetic. He was actually on his back at one point, with a trainer attending to him, all from a glancing slash off the shoulder pads - come on! I've seen worse slashes than that in Mite hockey!

If anyone deserved a suspension, it was Osgood, not Ribiero. A butt end to the face of a forward moving at full speed can be very dangerous.

"He gets pucks off the chest at 100 MPH and he falls like he is shot when a stick hits him? "

I guess it wasn't just me who laughed pretty hard at his flop. It reminded me of my 3 year old, who sometimes doesn't start acting hurt until he realizes he's getting some attention.

I really hope the NHL doesn't screw this up..... there is no need for that type of garbage from Osgood. He's better than than that or so i thought. Ribeiro would have been better served just punching Osgood rather than slashing.

I agreed with both of you.

Osgood should be fined the same amount as Ribiero, and an additional amount for that amazingly lame Louganis impression. He gets pucks off the chest at 100 MPH and he falls like he is shot when a stick hits him? Please. That is unsportsmanlike conduct at its finest, from both players. Both should be sitting a game or two. Both should be fined.

It was a stupid, stupid move but "drilled" might be overstating things. If Ribeiro gets suspended, Osgood should too for the butt end in the direction of Ribeiro's face and the oh so dramatic response to something he probably barely felt through his pads.
