USA gets Sabres treatment

Once again, we've got a goal scored through the side of the net. Finland beat U.S. goaltender Robert Esche (yes, that Robert Esche) with a shot that went through the netting wide of the post. The goal somehow stood even though the review was clear, and the Finns beat the United States, 3-2, in a qualifying round game at the world championships.

Sabres fans no doubt remember John LeClair of the Flyers scoring against the Sabres through the side of the net in the 2000 playoffs. Unfortunately, I have yet to find the video of Darcy Regier flipping out on NHL supervisor John D'Amico. But I'll keep looking because it's worth it.

"I agree about no time limits on honor and justice, etc."

Then, bring the courts in to bear on this issue. Get lawyers who will gladly tie the NHL up for years.

Lloyd,

I agree about no time limits on honor and justice. However, niether will be served in this case. The 2001 playoffs can not be replayed.

That play is an old wound and one can let is heal or let it fester and grow like a cancer. This type of wound can kill one's spirt just as surely as cancer can kill a body. I am choosing to let this wound heal and move on.

John, this is going back a few days now but you can see Darcy's flip out at the 5:47 mark or so of this video:

"my point remains true, it is time to move on from past misfortunes."

Honor and justice have NO time limits, compadre.

Touche. My apologies to Bucky Gleason. However, my point remains true, it is time to move on from past misfortunes.

It appears reading comprehension isn't one of Bob DH's strong suits, otherwise he'd know that Bucky didn't write this blog entry.

But hey, why argue over semantics?

Bucky: Leclair's goal is ancient history. Let it go already! Keep it up and you are going to be a bitter old sportswriter!!!!!! Unless, of course, your career aspiration is to become the next Jerry Sullivan.

This just in: Bucky Gleason is working on article about how Chris Drury's absence from Team USA was the reason that they blew a 2-0 lead against Finland. It will be interesting to see how he works the words "Danny" and "Briere" in there, as well, but Buck has never been one to let the old square peg and round hole deter him.

John/Dave: You're right. Pathetic. How can that happen with replay on the spot. It was several minutes before the Sabres' replay was shown and too late to do anything. Not with this. That's a joke.

The fact that that goal stood is absolutely pathetic.

The Sabres are the talk of the town and much of that talk will be here. Sabres beat writers John Vogl and Mike Harrington get you behind the scenes, and columnists Bucky Gleason and Bob DiCesare provide perspective with frequent postings on the team and the league.
