It seems all the bad injury news for the Buffalo Sabres is finally turning the other way. Players are starting to return, and today it was time to welcome back Craig Rivet.
The Sabres captain skated with his teammates for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery eight days ago. He skated on his own in sweatpants the past two days, and today was a chance to put on the pads and see how he felt.
“I’ve never had this before, but I would say definitely ahead of schedule,” Rivet said in HSBC Arena. “I’m feeling pretty good. Just with the skate today, it wasn’t real hard, but a real solid first day, and we’ll be looking to improve off that tomorrow.
“They’re saying this is the type of injury that’s going to take two to four weeks, and I’m only a week in. I’m pretty happy with the way it’s felt the past couple of days.’’
Henrik Tallinder also skated for the first time since suffering an ankle laceration Saturday. Neither blue-liner will play tonight when the Sabres host the Tampa Bay Lightning in center Paul Gaustad’s first game back from preseason thumb surgery.
